Daniel Negreanu

One of the hottest poker players in the world is the man they call “Kid Poker.”

Born in Toronto in 1974, Daniel Negreanu has shot to the top of the poker world, thanks to a telegenic personality and a string of solid performances at big tournaments.

Negreanu was an aspiring pool player as a teenager, but he fell in love with poker at age 15, even quitting high school in order to play. Unsatisfied with his prospects as a local rounder, Negreanu moved to Las Vegas at age 21.

He struggled at the middle-limit tables and returned to his home country, but only to study the game even more judiciously. The hard work paid off. Negreanu has three World Series of Poker bracelets to his credit, starting with his 1998 win at Pot Limit Hold 'Em.

Between 1997 and 1999, Negreanu won an amazing 12 major tournaments. He also placed 11th at the 2001 WSOP main event, but it was 2004 that saw Negreanu (and his ubiquitous Toronto Maple Leafs sweater) eat up the competition.

Thanks in part to winning the WSOP $2,000 Limit Hold 'Em and finishing well in five other events, he was named ESPN’s Toyota Player of the Year and CardPlayer Magazine Player of the Year.

Negreanu is known for aggressive play, strong bluffing and a penchant for picking up tells.

He’s a contributor to several magazines and websites, and his poker clients include Tobey Maguire. But his main goal in life is to settle down and start a family.

With over $4 million in earnings on the World Poker Tour alone, Negreanu shouldn’t have a problem fulfilling his wish.
